Guggenheim Museum Bilbao x IED
Fashion / Experiential Design
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) and the 60th anniversary of The Guggeheim Museum in New York, We were commissioned the design of two couture full looks, presented as a performance piece at The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. Each look is meticulously hand embroidered and includes more than 1,500 handcrafted plisé pieces, beads, crystals, wood chips and stones.
We were inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's conception of the museum as a 'living organism' and the principle that guided his architectural journey. At its core, that principle was an aspiration for spatial continuity, in which every element of a building would be conceived not as a discretely designed module, but as a constituent of the whole.
Following this principle, Wemerged it with IED's institutional values of inclusion, diversity and cross functional education, to create a seamless journey that blurred any boundaries between dress, human and space, in the form of moving art and performance.
